On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.ย Jesusโ motherย was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.ย When the wine was gone, Jesusโ mother said to him, โThey have no more wine.โ
โWoman, why do you involve me?โย Jesus replied.ย โMy hourย has not yet come.โ
His mother said to the servants, โDo whatever he tells you.โ
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing,ย each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus said to the servants,ย โFill the jars with waterโ; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them,ย โNow draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.โ
They did so, ย and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.ย He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom asideย and said, โEveryone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.โ
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signsย through which he revealed his glory;ย and his disciples believed in him.
Isn’t it interesting that Jesus started his ministry with a party? Why did he do that?
And why did he say, “My time has not yet come,” but then he still did a miracle?
This famous story of the wedding feast brings up a lot of questions, which I did my best to answer in this video, but it shows us some beautiful things about the greater purposes of Jesus’ work on earth.
Take a look! And let me know your thoughts.
