This soup is comfort food at its best. And on a snowy Colorado evening (we got 7 inches of fluffy snow last night!) comfort food is exactly what we want!
I started making this soup when we lived in Barcelona, Spain eighteen years ago. It wasn’t snowy there, but this comforting soup still felt like home.

I remember seeing this recipe, called Kielbasa and Kidney Beans, and I thought, “Ew, beans,” and then I also thought, “What is kielbasa?” So in the spirit of adventure I decided to make this recipe.
And here we are, twenty-two years later, and still eating this tasty meal, now with three hungry boys in tow!
We don’t want to forgive. Instead we hold grudges and wait in vain for the other person to be terribly sorry, or say the thing to make it right, or somehow suffer enough that we feel even.
And it doesn’t work.
