God’s Warnings Are There, Are We Listening?

November 10, 2020, 1 Comment

Click here to listen to this post about God’s warnings for us on the Candidly Kendra podcast.

When my Siri warned me of upcoming road hazards I had the thought, if only there were warnings for life.

Look out! It’s dangerous ahead!

And then I realized that’s exactly what God has spent generations telling us in his own Scriptures.

He said,

Look out! You’re going the wrong way. You’ll only destroy yourselves!1

So why does a warning about road hazards feel more important than God’s warnings about my spirit?

I am so thankful that Jesus has already paid the price for our cluelessness and rebellion. When we chose not to heed God’s warnings, Jesus took the consequences.

And now, for those of us who are united with Christ as believers, there is one warning we still need to heed.

“My son, pay attention to what I say;
    listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
    keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
    and health to a man’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart,
    for it is the wellspring of life.

Put away perversity from your mouth;
    keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
Let your eyes look straight ahead;
    fix your gaze directly before you.
Make level paths for your feet
    and take only ways that are firm.
Do not swerve to the right or the left;
    keep your foot from evil.
“
Proverbs 4:20-27 NIV

What can we do to guard the Gospel in our hearts? We can nurture it, feed it, care for it.

Looking straight ahead, we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, and resist the temptation to turn to worthless things that are clamoring for our attention (Psalm 119:37).
